Burien group protests city’s new camping ban by sleeping outside
This weekend a group of people set up tents in downtown Burien to protest the city’s recently enacted camping ban, an ordinance that prohibits people from sleeping overnight on public property. The activists said the city should not enforce the law until it provides some sort of shelter for people experiencing homelessness.

Oasis Home Church in Burien wants to open its parking lot as a space for people to temporarily live in their tents. Under a new city ordinance, it would be the only spot in Burien where people could do that legally. But now Burien’s city manager says the church doesn’t have the right paperwork to open the camp.

A record number of people died in King County last year without family to bury them
On Wednesday the King County Medical Examiner’s Office honored hundreds of people who died in 2022 whose families could not be located or could not afford a burial service. Investigators with the office say the number of indigent remains is increasing year after year.

Hundreds of Jewish activists in Seattle demand ceasefire in Gaza
People filled into the lobby of the Henry M. Jackson Federal Building in downtown Seattle Tuesday, demanding U.S. Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) call for a ceasefire between the Israeli military and Hamas. The large crowd was led by the group Jewish Voice for Peace, which argues the state of Israel does not represent Jews around the world.
