Gloria Steinem still has hope for the U.S.

Gloria Steinem is a feminist icon. In her new book, she gathers a lifetime of inspiring messages.

"The Truth Will Set You Free, But First It Will Piss You Off: Thoughts on Life, Love and Rebellion" is a collection of Steinem’s most memorable words, accompanied by illustrations.

In this talk, Steinem discusses social justice movements of past and present. She shares her experience of learning the rules of organizing movements, the power of unity and the practice of truly listening to ‘the other side’ in debates. Steinem also reflects on how a new generation of activists is inspiring change.

Steinem was joined in conversation by Susan Silver, who is best known for managing Seattle rock bands such as Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Screaming Trees.

Steinem is a writer, political activist, and feminist organizer. She was a founder of New York and Ms. magazines, and the author of "My Life on the Road," "Moving Beyond Words," "Revolution from Within," and "Outrageous Acts."

This event took place at the Paramount Theater on November 21.
