Here's where you can get out of Seattle's bitter cold
Following an already cold start to winter, the Seattle area is bracing for dangerously low overnight temperatures this week. Multiple severe weather shelters will open around King County for people experiencing homelessness to get out of the cold.
With temperatures set to fall into the 20s at night this week and a chance of snow early next week, the King County Regional Homelessness Authority announced the agency has activated at least eight overnight shelters for unhoused people. This is the fourth time since November the agency said it has opened severe weather shelters due to extreme cold.
So far in King County this year at least 15 people experiencing homelessness have died from causes related to hypothermia and exposure to the cold, according to the County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Most severe weather shelters close in the morning, so people staying overnight will have to move to a nearby day center.
