Life after being fired: Preet Bharara

Attorney and prosecutor Preet Bharara thinks of himself as a patriotic American and proud immigrant.

He was banned from Russia by Putin which he calls as ‘a badge of honor.’

Bharara was the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. He was appointed by President Obama in 2009 and fired by President Trump in 2017.

In this talk he talks about the upsides of being fired and the importance of lawful due process. He shares his thoughts on the recent Robert Mueller investigation and how Attorney General William Barr is handling the release of Mueller’s findings.

Bharara also discusses his new book “Doing Justice: A Prosecutor's Thoughts on Crime, Punishment, and the Rule of Law.” In it, he contemplates his career as a federal prosecutor and grapples with punishment, the complexities of the legal system, and the rule of law.

In 2017, Bharara joined the New York University School of Law faculty as a Distinguished Scholar in Residence. Currently, Bharara is the host "Stay Tuned,” a podcast focused on issues of justice and fairness.
