This was a busy news week, from the massive fire at Notre Dame cathedral in Paris to the long-awaited release of the Mueller report. Time to take a deep breath and enjoy a few weekend diversions.

KUOW’s Arts and Culture reporter Marcie Sillman has some suggestions.

F

RIDAY, April 19 -- Youth Speaks Grand Slam poetry competition, sponsored by Arts Corps. Spoken word poets from around the city will vie for five spots at the national Brave New Voices competition in Houston, Texas in late July. The Grand Slam takes place at King’s Hall next to Seattle’s Mt. Baker light rail station. Doors open at 6 p.m.; the competition gets underway at 7 p.m.

ATURDAY, April 20 – In observance of Easter weekend, Seattle’s community centers will be hosting egg hunts all over the city. In fact, towns across the Puget Sound region are sponsoring festive egg hunts this weekend. The big extravaganza takes place at Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo, the annual Bunny Bounce. Kids ages 1-8 can hunt for eggs, but everyone has a chance to watch the animals enjoy their own Easter basket goodies. The event runs 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.

S

UNDAY, April 21—Seattle area marimbist Erin Jorgensen presents a special Easter edition of her ongoing series “Bach and Pancakes.” Jorgensen presents all six of Bach’s cello suites on a five-octave marimba, plus the audience gets to snack on made-to-order pancakes. The event starts at noon at the Woodland Theater in Seattle’s Phinney Ridge neighborhood.
