Marcie Sillman's weekend culture picks, July 26-28
The last weekend in July is here and that means the Seattle-area summer arts scene is in full swing. KUOW's Arts and Culture reporter Marcie Sillman says this is a great weekend to take in some of our regional cultural festivals.
Friday, July 26 — Sunday, July 28
Bellevue Arts Museum presents the annual ARTSfair at Bellevue Square and the Museum. More than 300 vendors, live music and hands-on, family-friendly activities on site. Admission free.
The venerable Jazz Port Townsend Festival is underway this week at Centrum, at Ford Worden State Park. The activities culminate with live performances this weekend at multiple venues, including a mainstage lineup each evening.
Friday, July 26
Enjoy free theater in area parks. Both Wooden O and Greenstage present Shakespearean classics every summer. Check websites for performance details.
"Romeo and Juliet," presented by Wooden O at Luther Burbank Park on Mercer Island, 7 p.m. Wooden O also offers "Twelfth Night" at Riverton Heights Park.
Greenstage presents "Henry IV, part 2" at Lower Woodland Park, and "Measure for Measure" at the View Ridge Playfield. Both performances begin at 7 p.m.
Saturday, July 27
The granddaddy of Seattle festivals kicks off with the annual Seafair Torchlight Run, featuring both 5-K and 8-K events starting at Seattle Center and running downtown on 4th Avenue. Races start at 6 p.m.
Shakespeare performances: Wooden O's "Romeo and Juliet" at Luther Burbank Park Amphitheater; "Twelfth Night" at Issaquah's Klahanie Park.
Greenstage offers "Henry IV" at 3 p.m. and "Taming of the Shrew" at 7 p.m. Both performances at Lower Woodland Park in Seattle.
Sunday July, 28
Wooden O Shakespeare: "Romeo and Juliet" 2 p.m. Fisher Pavilion, Seattle Center; "Twelfth Night" 6 p.m. Fisher Pavilion.
Greenstage Shakespeare: at Lower Woodland Park: 3 p.m. "Taming of the Shrew," 7 p.m. "Henry IV." David Rodgers Park: 3 p.m. "Merry Wives of Windsor," 4:15 p.m. "Measure for Measure."
