Weather forecasters predict our weekend will be mostly sunny. In honor of the fair weather, KUOW arts and Culture reporter Marcie Sillman spices her weekly picks with some outdoor activity suggestions. Enjoy.

New Seattle-based dance company Guild Dance presents “Immigration Stories” at Yaw Theater in Georgetown.

Opening Day of the boating season kicks off with crew races through Seattle’s Montlake Cut. Area masters and juniors teams compete first, starting at 10 a.m. The main events are the Windemere Cup races featuring the University of Washington crew team taking on the German national men’s and women’s teams, along with Boston University men’s crew and the UCLA women.

Puget Sound area restaurants and clubs mark Cinco de Mayo, a holiday that commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over the French on May 5, 1862. El Centro de la Raza on Seattle’s Beacon Hill offers free, family-friend festivities on Saturday from 11-6, featuring food, live music, and an open-air market.

Puget Sound area garden clubs offer an array of plant sales this weekend. Check out Kubota Garden on Saturday for a selection of plants found on the grounds. On Sunday, the Seattle Fuschia Society hosts a sale at the Hiram Chittenden Locks in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood.

Seattle Opera opens a new production of Bizet’s classic “Carmen” at McCaw Hall at Seattle Center. The production runs through May 19th.

Seattle’s Museum of History and Industry opens the new exhibition “Seattle Style: Fashion/Function.” Yes, there will be rain gear and down jackets. But Seattle style transcends our outdoor gear fetish. The show is up through mid-October.
