We’ve survived Halloween! (Although no doubt some of us are still suffering sugar hangovers).

KUOW’s Arts and Culture reporter Marcie Sillman has some recommendations for activities to entertain yourselves before the Thanksgiving/Chanukah/Christmas/New Year’s holiday onslaught begins.

Friday, November 1

Seattle’s El Centro de la Raza commemorates Dia de los Muertos with an evening of music, food and the opening of a special ofrenda exhibition. Admission is free; doors open at 5:30.

On the Boards celebrates 40 years of presenting contemporary performance with a blowout party at its lower Queen Anne theater. Featured artists include comedian/musician Reggie Watts, Sarah Rudinoff and more.

Choreographer Alice Gosti debuts her durational solo, “Where is Home: Birds of Passage,” a rumination on the immigrant experience. At ACT Theatre, produced by ACT Lab.

Seattle Butoh Festival opens at the Taoist Studies Institute in North Seattle.

Saturday, November 2

Seattle’s Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI) opens “Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans Shape the Nation.” The exhibition explores the heritage and contributions of Indian Americans in the Pacific Northwest.

Dia de Muertos weekend celebration at Seattle Center, part of the Festal series of cultural celebrations.

“Iconic Black Women: Ain’t I a Woman,” an exhibition of art by Hiawatha D, looking at the power and resilience of black women in America. At Northwest African American Museum in Seattle.
