Marcie Sillman's weekend culture picks, October 25-27
Maybe it’s because Halloween is coming; maybe it’s weather-related. Whatever the reason, this weekend is packed with cultural events for all ages.
KUOW’s Arts and Culture reporter Marcie Sillman highlights just a few.
Friday, October 25
ACT Theatre has Halloween on the brain; the company opened playwright Steven Dietz’s adaptation of the Bram Stoker classic, “Dracula,” this week. The production runs through November 17. The theater advises the production contains adult themes.
Pork Filled Productions, an Asian-American theater company based on Seattle, offers the local premiere of “The Brothers Paranormal,” the story of Thai-American brothers who go searching for paranormal activities in the Midwest and come face-to-face with cross-cultural, racial and generational conflicts. Through November 16th.
On the Boards presents the return of “Ten Tiny Dances.” Local artists are tapped to create work that’s both short in duration, and small in presentation: confined to a 4x4 foot stage. Choreographers this year include Arson Nicki, KT Niehoff, Scott Powell performance and more. Performances through Saturday, 10/26.
NFFTY Youth Film Festival through Sunday 10/27 at SIFF Uptown and SIFF Film Center at Seattle Center.
Annex Theatre presents puppet theater for the whole family, “Faeriestruck,” the story of a young runaway who sells out her family to a changeling.
Saturday, October 26
Seattle Aquarium celebrates Halloween this weekend with activities for the whole family. Come in costume or masks to watch everything from underwater pumpkin carvers to mysterious mammals and ominous octopuses. Festivities Saturday and Sunday.
Celebrate your feline friends at the SEA-MEOW convention at Seattle Center. This two day gathering features cat yoga, adoptions and the chance to hear from cat experts.
