Ride The Ducks Will Be On The Road Again, But Not The Aurora Bridge
A new agreement has been reached between the City of Seattle and the Ride the Ducks company. Tours will once again take passengers around the city of Seattle Friday.
The tours have been discontinued since last September when one of the company's amphibious vehicles was involved in a crash on the Aurora Bridge that killed of five international college students and hospitalized dozens of other people with injuries.
According to the agreement, the Ducks vehicles will no longer take the Aurora Bridge. Instead, when the tours resume, they will travel on Dexter Avenue down to the Fremont Bridge.
Also, drivers will no longer narrate tours while the vehicles are in motion.
The investigation into the Aurora Bridge crash is still being conducted by the National Transportation Safety Administration.
The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission cleared the so-called "Truck Duck" version of the vehicles to return to service in December. Those vehicles have a different manufacturer chassis, and axle system than the one involved in the collision.
The longer "Stretch Ducks" have not been cleared.
