S'no snowmageddon in Seattle but expect more powder on Wednesday
Western Washington woke up to a blanket of powder Monday morning, but whether or not it added up to a snow day depended on where you were.
After a brief, cold break, the region can expect another blast of snow this week.

Bellevue and Kirkland got about 2 inches of snow, while Everett got about 6 inches. Bainbridge Island also reported getting 6 inches of snow while a power outage left 14,000 people without service.

"The north end got … 1-3 inches," said Gary Schnieder with the National Weather Service. "Everett, that area got more than expected. The south end, the cold air didn’t really make it down there and the convergence zone stayed north. There were probably some snow flakes down there, but they probably didn’t get any accumulation."
"We didn’t get as much cold air as we were thinking. It’s definitely cold up near Bellingham, they’re like 21 degrees (this morning). The cold air didn’t really surge as south as we were expecting it to."
Looking ahead, lowland snow throughout Monday is possible, but accumulation is likely to be less than an inch. NWS reports there are chances of snow showers through Thursday with temperatures dropping into the 20s.
Snowy traffic
The snow had troopers with the Washington State Patrol on high alert. Trooper Heather Axtman reports that they responded to 40 collisions between 5-8 p.m. Sunday night as snow began to fall. She notes that many of the vehicles were all-wheel drive.
WSP also helped remove five trees from roadways while also tending to stranded motorists. Axtman reports that troopers even drove a young lady's car four miles to the next exit because she was anxious about driving in the snow.
Meanwhile, some drivers spent a cold night trapped on U.S. 2 between Stevens Pass and Skykomish, after trees fell and took down power lines west of Skykomish, and avalanche danger caused the closure of the highway below the pass.
Drivers were tweeting their frustration.
"Can we please get an update on what is recommended for those stranded in Skykomish?" one driver tweeted at the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Several buses carrying dozens of middle and high school students were reported stuck in Skykomish.
Several inches of snow fell overnight in southern Snohomish County, but state route 522 from northern King County into Seattle was bare and wet at 6 a.m.
