‘There will be no privacy.’ The internet, tech moguls and you

There’s something you might want to know about journalist Kara Swisher. She gets a kick out of insulting billionaires. She’s good at it, and they seem to respect her for it.

If you want to hear a brainy, fast-paced reality check on how the tech industry and politicians are shaping our socially-mediated futures, buckle in to this talk. Swisher is brash, wicked-smart, funny and full of wisdom about our brave new world of technology.

Kara Swisher is the executive editor of the technology news website Recode, the host of the Recode Decode podcast and an opinion columnist for the New York Times. She calls herself “the grumpy lady of tech.” And sometimes she sneaks up on people walking down the street, rapt by their smart phones, and screams “put it down!”

Seattle Arts & Lectures presented this conversation with Kara Swisher as part of their Journalism Series. She spoke with University of Washington history professor Margaret O’Mara on May 7 at Benaroya Hall. Seattle-based writer Timothy Egan co-created the series and introduced this talk. KUOW’s Jennie Cecil Moore recorded the event.
