Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, KUOW has adapted and set an "audacious goal" of raising $1 million to keep serving its community with fact-based news and information.

As the coronavirus pandemic evolved and prompted people to stay apart, many working from home, KUOW's staff and reporters had to adapt to keep the news flowing. It has meant reporting from impromptu "studios" underneath blankets and inside closets. It has resulted in work being done remotely and at odd hours.

It also resulted in knocking down KUOW's original fundraising plans, during a time when the station highly relies upon listener support. This support keeps the news operation up and running.

Still, the station has moved forward with an ambitious $1 million fundraising goal -- at a distance -- over a single day. As a message from KUOW President Caryn Mathes explains:

"We postponed our planned March on-air fund drive, but our unwavering commitment to prioritizing your right to know did not come without consequences. We now face an economic uncertainty that unfortunately many others face.

We’ve decided to try something we’ve never done before. Instead of a traditional week-long on-air pledge drive, we aim to raise one million dollars in a single day—Thursday, April 23.

It’s an audacious goal and we need your help. Your support will help maintain the veracity and quality you’ve come to expect from KUOW and NPR."

KUOW is asking its listeners and supporters to chip in during this difficult time which demands thoughtful, fact-based information.
