Washington reaches settlement in chicken conspiracy lawsuit
Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson announced Monday that the state had reached a $10.5 million settlement. With a chicken company.
Tyson Foods is one of 19 producers the attorney general sued – alleging the companies colluded to rig the price of chicken. Tyson is by far the largest of the three producers that have settled so far.
We previously covered the attorney general's lawsuit and how the way the chicken industry works makes it easier for a conspiracy like this to happen.
That story originally aired July 25. In August, Fieldale Farms Corporation also agreed to pay $475,000. As a part of the $10.5 million settlement announced Monday, Tyson Foods agreed to better train employees to follow antitrust laws.
The company will also cooperate with the ongoing state investigation into the poultry industry and the 16 companies that have yet to settle.
