What should you expect from KUOW's new noontime show? Soundside's producers talk about their hopes for the new show.

When The Record went off the air back in July 2021, the team took a step back to consider what makes a good show. We spoke to listeners, and other show producers, and hosts, and to each other. And, perhaps unsurprisingly, the answer was different for everyone.

But slowly, as we added a host (Libby Denkmann), and more team members, we began to build Soundside.

That process isn't done. But we're excited that now we get to add you to that team — to share our hopes for the show, and to learn what you need from us.

Click the audio above to hear what Soundside's producers are aiming for, in their own words. For now, we'll leave you with our show mission, and our hopes for the future. We can't wait to shape it with you.

Soundside's mission statement

Soundside believes establishing trust with our listeners involves taking the time to listen.

We know that building trust with a community takes work. It involves broadening conversations, making sure our show amplifies systemically excluded voices, and challenging narratives that normalize systemic racism.

We want Soundside to be a place where you can be part of the dialogue, learn something new about your own backyard, and meet your neighbors from the Peninsula to the Palouse.

Together, we’ll tell stories that connect us to our community — locally, nationally and globally. We’ll get to know the Pacific Northwest and each other.

Thank you for listening.
