Amazon says most of the 8,400 corporate and tech jobs it has available now in the Puget Sound region are in the city of Seattle. But not for long.

Even though there are currently 7,000 positions open in the city of Seattle, the next wave of jobs growth will be on the east side of Lake Washington. The company continues to increase its spending on new offices in Bellevue and Redmond.

Amazon is also expanding its footprint across the country. It says it is hiring for 33,000 corporate and tech jobs. And some of these positions are in cities that are not tech hubs.

Amazon is aiming to help people from the outside get in. On September 16, Amazon says it will use its annual Career Day to offer thousands of counseling sessions to help people sidelined by change find work - at Amazon and elsewhere.

Research that the company commissioned itself reveals that 61% of US job seekers are looking for work in a different industry. And 36% of job seekers say their old employers did not make the best use of their training anyway.

Amazon says this year’s career day will help people reinvent their skills and make the leap out of pandemic-smashed industries into jobs that are available now.

Job seekers looking for a career session can sign up at Amazon Jobs.
