A professor talks about public education in the Trump-DeVos era
If Diane Ravitch were running for office, her opponent might attack her for being "for Common Core before she was against it." Ravitch served as an assistant secretary of education in the George W. Bush administration, and was originally a proponent of standardized testing, school choice, common core standards and the No Child Left Behind Act.
But she isn’t running for anything, and she has changed her views.
Diane Ravitch is a research professor of education at New York University and a historian of education. Her most recent books are “Reign of Error: The Hoax of the Privatization Movement and the Danger to America’s Public Schools” and “The Death and Life of the Great American School System: How Testing and Choice Are Undermining Education.”
She gave this UW Graduate School Walker Ames lecture titled Saving Public Education in the Trump-DeVos Era at the University of Washington’s Kane Hall on April 4.
