Bernie campaign returns to Washington with hundreds of events
Sen. Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign is back in Washington almost a year before the primary. This weekend over 200 volunteer events are scheduled around the state.
"Washington is number four out of all states in the U.S.," said Claire Sandberg, national organizing director for the Sanders campaign.
Sandberg said 230 volunteer events are planned for this weekend.
In 2016, Sen. Sanders lost the state Democratic primary to Secretary Hilary Clinton.
He won the caucus — something Washington Democrats are not doing this election.
"Even though the rules of the game are going to be different this time in Washington, we're going to be doing a lot of the same things," Sandberg said, "Just getting people out there, having conversations."
The state was a moneymaker for Sanders two years ago: Only California and New York donated more to the campaign than Washington supporters.
