Seattle candidates, now's your chance: Filing opens for City Council seats

Monday begins a week of filing for candidates seeking to be elected to office around Washington state.

That includes those running for the Seattle City Council

The new council will look a lot different. The seven district seats are up for grabs, and only two current members are running for re-election.

Already it's a crowded field. Right now nearly 60 people have declared their candidacy -- District 6 has 12.

But that could change by week's end.

Most of those interested have raised a couple thousand dollars for their campaigns.

They're competing with people like Councilmember Kshama Sawant, who's brought in the most so far.

Friday is the filing deadline for candidates.

The primary election is in August, and the two candidates with the most votes in each district will go to the November general election.
