Unfortunately, there's a lot of new crime to discuss. There was an afternoon drive-by shooting outside a day care in the Central District. There was another shooting at a postal shop in the Central District, whose founder was shot and killed there a year ago. In North Seattle, 14 high school students have been mugged at gunpoint over the past month. How are Seattle City Council candidates talking about crime?
Washington and dozens of other states sued Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. The states claim that Meta knew their social media platforms were harmful to children, and still targeted kids with features designed to be addictive, features such as the "Like" button, constant notifications, and "infinite scrolling." The lawsuit also claims Meta collected data from kids without parental consent. Are like buttons, infinite scrolling, and notifications addictive in the way cigarettes are?
On Sunday, a Horizon Air flight from Everett headed to San Francisco with 80 passengers on board. An off-duty Alaska pilot was in the cockpit sitting in the jump seat, according to the FBI. The crew said he was chatting casually with the pilots and gave zero indication of anything wrong during the beginning of the flight. But at some point, he tried to grab the fire suppression system for the engines and attempted to shut them down. The pilot then grabbed the off-duty pilot's wrist and physically engaged with him for about half a minute, then asked him to leave the cockpit, which he did. The plane diverted to Portland, and the off-duty pilot was arrested. What else do we know?
We got our first significant mountain snowfall of the season. The Washington State Department of Transportation is asking people to drive safely and be prepared this winter season? How do you feel about heading into the wet, cold, and dark time of year?
